Difference between Western and Eastern Violin
Violin (Western)
The violin is one of the most popular instruments in the world. It is difficult to play but the music is beautiful. It is a member of a family of instruments known as the string family that includes the violin, the viola, the cello and the bass. It was first made in the early 16th century in Italy. The violin is the smallest and highest-pitched of the string instrument family. It has four strings from high to low. The strings on the violin are E, A, D, and G. However, you may be surprised to learn that in reality, there are a lot of benefits you can expect from learning the violin. Violin lessons will boost your memory and mental capacities and it can also improve your reading skills and language processing skills. Also it reduces the stress. Research has found that children and teens who play the violin have more skills than those playing other instruments.
Violin (Eastern)
The violin has become a popular instrument among North Indian classical (Hindustani) musicians. It was adopted into Hindustani music in the early 20th century. Although the construction of the violin is the same in Indian and Western music, the tuning, playing posture, and techniques are quite different. The major difference in playing the violin in Indian music is the posture. Indian music is performed seated on the floor, and violinists have also followed suit. Indian music has scales which are more specific, because the music relies on melody. Violinists such as N. Rajam and Sangeeta Shankar are highly accomplished international performers in the Hindustani style.
Our institute has taken steps to provide lessons for the school syllabuses as well as lessons for international exams such as ABRSM-London, Trinity College-London and GuildExam-Australia. Also we conduct classes for the Visharadh exam. We have separate classes for students and adults who need to learn only as a performer.
