Kandyan Dancing

Dance, according to scientific opinion, is a rhythm of all physical and human phenomena in the world. Rhythm is inherent in us. The internal processes of the body, such as the pulse of our heart, take place at a constant speed according to a certain rhythm. There is an interaction between movement and emotion. This interaction results in a spontaneous jump in pleasure, a movement of the facial muscles, trembling of the lips, and a restless posture.

According to legends, the Kandyan dance originated from the dance ritual known as Kohombayakkankariya. Kohombayakkankariya is simply a pacification performed to cure diseases. In this way Kandyan dances have been created by combining various elements. Kandyan dance has become more and more nourished by adding 18 Wannams and folk dances. Kandyan Dance has been able to make it even more beautiful by using the knot drums and poems.
